Jipfish Wagon – Owner's manual

1. Intended use and limits

The Jipfish Wagon is a hand-pulled wagon for transporting children and luggage at walking speed. It is operated by adults only.

  • Maximum 2 children at the same time.
  • Only for children from 12 months who can sit up unaided.
  • Maximum total load 80 kg, children and luggage combined. Never overload the wagon.
  • Maximum speed 5 km/h. Walking only: not for jogging, running or skating.
  • Never attach the wagon to a car, bicycle, motorcycle, any other vehicle or an animal.
  • Do not use the wagon in road traffic. Use it on footpaths and in pedestrian areas.
  • Never use the wagon on stairs, steps or escalators.
  • Take extra care near water (canals, ponds, beaches, quays). Keep hold of the handlebar at all times and always engage the parking brake when stationary.

Children in the wagon

  • Never leave a child unattended. Always keep children in view.
  • Children must remain seated while the wagon is in use. They must not stand, kneel, sit on the side panels or climb out of the wagon while it is moving.
  • Children must not sit on luggage or other objects.
  • Children must never steer or operate the wagon, also not from inside the wagon.

Luggage and weight distribution

  • Distribute luggage evenly and place it as low and as centrally as possible on the floor of the wagon.
  • Do not hang bags or other items from the handlebar or the side panels. This can make the wagon unstable and cause it to tip over.
  • With two children: seat them opposite each other so the weight is spread evenly.

2. Slopes, stairs and surfaces

  • Use the wagon on firm, even and stable surfaces.
  • Do not use the wagon on steep slopes, embankments, dunes or along drop-offs.
  • Never go down a hill or slope unless an adult controls the wagon by the handlebar at all times. Walk slowly and keep the wagon close to you.
  • Never use the wagon on stairs or steps. Take children out and carry the wagon, folded and empty.
  • Unpaved, loose or slippery surfaces (sand, gravel, mud, wet grass, ice, snow) reduce grip and stability. Slow down or avoid these surfaces.
  • Risk of rolling away: never leave the wagon on a slope or uneven ground, not even with the parking brake engaged. Park on level ground only.
  • Risk of tipping over: never drive across a slope sideways, avoid kerbs and obstacles, and do not take tight turns at speed.
  • Uneven load: if children or luggage are not evenly distributed, the wagon can tip over more easily. Stop, redistribute the load and continue slowly.

3. Safety belt

Always use a safety belt for children under 3 years. We advise using it for all children.

  • Use only the original Jipfish Safety Belt (lap belt with buckle and plastic adjuster), one belt per child.
  • The attachment points are the holes in the floor panel of the wagon. Never attach the belt anywhere else.

  1. Turn the plastic adjuster of the belt a quarter turn and push it through the hole in the floor. Turn it back so it locks under the floor.
  2. Place the belt around the child's waist and click the buckle shut.
  3. Pull the strap until the belt fits snugly around the child.

Check before every use

  • Pull firmly on both ends of the belt: the adjusters must not come out of the floor.
  • Check the attachment points, straps and buckle for a secure fit and damage.
  • Do not use the wagon if the safety belt or buckle is damaged.

4. Assembly, folding and locking

Assembly, disassembly, folding and unfolding must be done by adults only. Keep children away from the wagon while doing this. Remove all packaging materials and keep them away from children.

  1. Lay the wagon down on the floor.
  2. Attach the 4 wheels to the frame. Push each wheel onto its axle until it locks into place, then pull firmly on the wheel to check that it is secure.
  3. Unfold both back panels at the same time.
  4. Unfold the side panels and close all locks.

Folding

Fold in reverse order. First take the children and all contents out of the wagon.

Pinch and shear points

  • Keep hands, fingers and other body parts away from moving parts, hinges and locks when folding and unfolding.
  • Before every use, check that all locking devices are fully engaged.
  • After fitting the wheels, check that all wheels and axles are securely in place.
  • Do not use the wagon if a lock does not close completely or a wheel is not securely attached.

5. Parking brake

The parking brake is operated with your foot.

  • Engage: push the brake pedal sideways with your foot.
  • Release: push the brake pedal back to the other side with your foot.
  • Check: after engaging, gently push and pull the wagon by the handlebar. The wheels must not turn. Only then let go of the handlebar.
  • Always engage the parking brake whenever the wagon is stationary, and before children get in or out.
  • Check that the brake works properly before every use.
  • The parking brake is only for securing a stationary wagon. Never use it to slow the wagon down while moving.
  • Do not use the wagon if the brake is damaged, difficult to operate or does not hold.

6. Check before every use

  • ☐ The parking brake works.
  • ☐ Wheels, axles, screws and tow bar are securely attached.
  • ☐ All locking devices are fully engaged.
  • ☐ Safety belts and buckles are intact and securely attached.
  • ☐ Tyres are undamaged and at the correct pressure (1.5 bar, maximum 2.5 bar).
  • ☐ Wooden parts and frame have no cracks, splinters, deformations or loose parts.

Do not use the wagon if it is damaged, has missing parts, loose connections or does not work properly. In that case, contact Jipfish or a qualified service provider. Use only original Jipfish spare parts.

7. Care and maintenance

This wagon requires maintenance by the user. Regular maintenance extends the life of the wagon and reduces the chance of problems.

  • Recommended tyre pressure 1.5 bar (maximum 2.5 bar).
  • The materials are carefully selected and suitable for outdoor use. Wood remains a natural product: store the wagon clean and dry and protect it from long exposure to the weather.
  • After contact with salt water, remove the wheels and axles and rinse the wagon, wheels and axles with fresh water. Let everything dry completely before storing.
  • Do not clean with a pressure washer.

Lubrication

  • Lubricate only the moving parts intended for it: the hinges, the locks and the wheel axles. Use a light spray lubricant (for example WD-40).
  • Lubricant must not get on the brake, the tyres, the tread, the safety belts or any surfaces that children can touch.
  • Remove any excess lubricant immediately.
  • Keep care products and lubricants out of reach of children.
